Homework and Homework Folders

This week your child will bring home a homework folder. As a class we will be using this as the vehicle to get homework and written communication to and from school. Your child will also keep a record of the books they have read throughout the school year in this folder.

I'll be sending a homework packet home each Monday and it will be due the following Monday. This the the first homework packet for this year. You and your child are welcome to set the pace at which you complete the homework, but remember that it will be due the following Monday.

As part of this week's homework, I'm asking each student to decorate the outside of their folder. You do not need to purchase anything to decorate this folder. This is the place to put those little stickers, photos, stamps and trading cards that they want to keep but cannot find a home for. Be creative and employ scrapbooking tricks if you would like. I have found that students are less likely to lose or misplace their homework folder if they have personalized it.

Because these folders will be laminated, please do not have your child use permanent markers or rubber cement. These items tend to make the lamination bubble and not seal properly. Instead, use water-based markers and glue sticks.

It looks to be a fun and productive year and I look forward to meeting with you at Back-to-School night on Wednesday 26 August 2009.
