Home Reading, Spelling and Field Trip

Home Reading Program
Our school has a fantastic home reading program — in my opinion the best in the district. I encourage you to have your child participate. When your child brings home their home reading packet today, please read the yellow note, complete it and return it with their home reading packet. The books in the home reading packet should be on their independent reading level. In other words, they should be able to read these books without help from anyone. If you see that this level is not correct, please send me a note and I can have it adjusted.

Birthday Treats
We have had a couple of students celebrate their birthdays all ready. If you would like your child to bring a birthday treat, make sure they are store bought. I have students share their birthday teats during our read aloud times (9:45-10:00 and 1:45-2:00).

Spelling
I realize that the approach I'm using with spelling will be new to many of you this year. As we work at this new spelling procedure I realize there may be some kinks to work out.

Each week your child should bring home their spelling words in a zip-close baggie. I tell them that their "spelling words should live inside their homework folder" — which should travel back and forth between home and school every day. To help you keep track which list your child is studing, I'll have them write the color and sort number on the colored score sheet attached to the front of their homework packet each week. In that way, if they loose their words, a second sheet may be downloaded from my spelling web page.

Field Trip
The fourth grade will going on a pioneer field trip to Camp Floyd/Stagecoach Inn in Fairfield, Utah on 8 Oct. 2010. We need parent chaperons to come along. The district requires field trip volunteers to have a background check. Please contact either me or Mrs. Ellsworth, the Social Studies teacher, if you can come.

Please remember that each Thursday we will be participating in radKIDS. Please have your child wear closed-toe shoes on Thursday.

Thank you.
